An orchestral musician gets on the metro after rehearsal and asks the woman opposite him for the time. Instead of answering she repeats his sentence back in exactly his tone. He goes home; she follows, comes in through the door and puts his life on like a coat. His family does not notice the difference. Yorgos Lanthimos directed, with Matt Dillon in the lead. It is a short film that takes one idea all the way and explains nothing. The elements familiar from his features are here: wide lenses, faces held in close-up, characters speaking flatly and strings used to raise the tension. It is a compressed version of the register he tried in The Killing of a Sacred Deer and The Lobster. Who it is for: viewers who know Lanthimos's cinema and like short films built on a single idea. Who it is not for: anyone expecting closure. The film never says what happened or why; it simply leaves the man who has lost his place and walks out.
