What Noah's Ark Is About
The film braids two stories together, Noah and the Flood on one side and soldiers in the trenches of the First World War on the other. Michael Curtiz made it in 1928 as a part talkie, one of the odd products of the year cinema was learning to speak. Darryl F. Zanuck wrote the story, with Dolores Costello and George O'Brien in the leads. What it is remembered for now is the flood: hundreds of thousands of gallons of water, untrained crowds and serious injuries. Three extras are said to have drowned, a claim sources still repeat carefully. Hal Mohr walked off the picture over the lack of safety.
