What Nocturna - The Great Old Man's Night Is About
Ulysses is a hundred years old, lives alone and is close to death. On the last night of his life something happens that makes him think again about his past and his present. Remorse will not leave him alone, and dementia blurs the line between what is real and what he remembers. Two roads lie ahead: to reach his death freely, or to go round and round as a soul without rest. The film does not reduce old age and dementia to material for horror; it puts the man’s own conscience at the centre. The building, the corridors and the neighbours take on an uncanny air. The reckoning of a whole life is fitted inside one night. Pepe Soriano and Marilú Marini appear in Gonzalo Calzada’s hundred and four minute Argentine film, completed in 2020.
