Noise

Everyone in one carriage of a suburban train in Melbourne is killed; one girl survives. The police spread out across the city. Graham McGahan, a young constable, is put in a caravan to take reports from the public. There is something wrong with his ears: a constant ringing, not yet diagnosed. Nobody comes to the caravan, and then people do. The girl who survived has to give her statement somewhere, and the killer is still out there. Matthew Saville directs the Australian film; a hundred and eight minutes, with Brendan Cowell as Graham. It is not much interested in solving the murder; it watches what the people living around a crime do, and who hears what. The sound design sits at the centre of it.
