What North Sea Is Death Sea Is About

Fourteen-year-old Uwe lives on a Hamburg housing estate, expects nothing from his parents but trouble, and breaks open vending machines for cash. He works off the rest of his anger with a gang that attacks immigrant kids, and one of their targets is Dschingis. When the gang smashes the boat Dschingis built with his own hands, he fights back, and the two enemies recognise the same life in each other and become friends. They rebuild the boat together and run for the North Sea. Hark Bohm shows the racism plainly rather than softening it, and Udo Lindenberg’s songs carry the film.
