What Kings of the Road Is About
Bruno repairs cinema projectors, driving his truck from town to town along the East German border. One morning Robert drives his car into a river, climbs out, and the two become travelling companions without discussing it. What they find everywhere is the same: halls shut, screens torn, whatever is left surviving on cheap films. Wenders shot it in sequence before the script was finished: nearly three hours, black and white, almost no plot. The last part of his road trilogy, and a lament for German cinema.
