What Northern Pursuit Is About
Steve Wagner, a Canadian Mountie, captures a German air force officer on a spy mission, and the man later escapes from the prison camp. To take the whole spy ring, the police stage a ruse and present Wagner as sympathetic to the Germans, and the spies trust him enough to bring him into their plans. Raoul Walsh's film is one of the propaganda leaning adventures Errol Flynn made through the war years, with chases in the snow and a submarine in it. It was made in 1943 while the war was going on, and what it wants to tell an audience is clear from the start.
