What Notebook Is About
Kabir, out of the army, takes a teaching job at a school in Kashmir that is in a miserable state. In the classroom he finds a notebook left behind by Firdaus, the teacher from the year before, and the more he reads the more he comes to know her, the children, and what this school actually is. Two people come to know each other without ever meeting. Nitin Kakkar shows a Kashmir outside the conflict reporting, a place with a lake and children in it. The telling is less an exchange of letters than two diaries laid one on top of the other.
