Old Cats

Isidora is an old woman and she notices that her mind is going quickly. She wants nobody to see it, least of all her daughter. Her daughter is waiting for a sign of decline, and if one appears she will take everything the old woman has. So a dinner that looks calm turns into an examination. Isidora works at holding on to words, to names, to the order of things. The film builds this without asking for pity, almost as a thriller. An old person having to defend herself in her own home sits at the centre of the story. The ninety minutes pass over a single evening. Bélgica Castro and Claudia Celedón take the leads, with Catalina Saavedra also in the cast. The film by Sebastián Silva and Pedro Peirano, a joint Chilean and American production, was completed in 2010.
