One Careful Owner

An extraordinary flat comes up for Sara: spacious, bright and cheap. There is one condition. Lola, the owner, is old and will go on living in the flat; Sara can only move in after the woman dies. Sara accepts. Then she meets the old woman and things get complicated: Lola is stubborn, sharp-tongued and has no intention whatsoever of dying. An unexpected bond forms between the two of them. The idea Bernabé Rico's film is built on is uncomfortable and the film does not hide it: a contract founded on waiting for someone to die. But the story does not keep that up as black comedy; the more the two get to know each other, the further the matter moves. Juana Acosta plays Sara and Kiti Mánver plays Lola, and what carries the film is the duel of words between them. José Sacristán is in the cast too. Ninety-four minutes.
