What One Day in Europe Is About
Hannes Stöhr's film sets four stories in four European cities on the same day. What they share is a theft: in each one the protagonist is a stranger in the country and, once robbed, ends up in a police station among insurance forms and a language they cannot follow. The comedy comes not from the crime but from bureaucracy and from interpreters; nobody understands anybody, and everybody is doing their best. None of their plans work out as intended. Stöhr shows Europe not as a shared story but as four separate misunderstandings happening simultaneously. The cast is multilingual and includes Erdal Yıldız and Florian Lukas. It competed in Berlin.
