What In July Is About
A shy trainee teacher in Hamburg decides to follow a girl he has met to Istanbul, and everything goes wrong along the way. This is early Fatih Akin and entirely free of the weight of his later work: a light, fast, funny road movie. The journey runs from Germany through the Balkans into Turkey with a mishap in every country. The idea is simple and well built, that what you are looking for was already beside you. The ending is predictable and the film does not care.
