One Fine Spring Day

Sang-woo is a sound engineer who travels to bamboo forests, snowy mountains and shorelines to record the sounds of the natural world. Eun-su, a radio presenter, starts working with him on those recordings. They are together quickly. Then Eun-su withdraws. Sang-woo does not understand and asks how love can change. There is no answer. Hur Jin-ho does not tell the separation through a fight or a betrayal. Nobody does anything wrong; one of them wants to continue and the other does not. The whole tension of the film is in that asymmetry, and the recordings are its equivalent: moments captured and impossible to bring back. Yoo Ji-tae plays Sang-woo and Lee Young-ae plays Eun-su. The telling moves through the seasons, with spring used as both beginning and end. Who it's for: Viewers who like the quiet vein of Korean melodrama, narratives built on sound and place, and stories of separation. Who it's not for: There is almost no plot and the pace is very slow. No clear closure is offered.
