One Hundred Days After Childhood

The summer camp is set up in an old manor house. The children there are preparing to stage a play by Lermontov. Lopukhin is in love with his classmate Yergolina and can see nothing else; meanwhile Sonya is watching him. As the rehearsals go on, the feelings in the play pass over into the children themselves. Sergey Solovyov's film is about the first summer of adolescence: jealousy, embarrassment, the first hurt. The telling does not put the adults in the way; even the camp leader stands at the edge of the children's world. Tatyana Drubich was very young at the time and went on working with Solovyov for many years. In the images, light and the landscape carry the film's feeling.
