What starts out looking like the ordinary life story of an ordinary young man slowly turns into a ballad that can be read as sad and hopeful at the same time. At the centre is a young man returning from the war in Chechnya, and the camera follows him along with an entire school class down the road from socialism to the present day. Everyone is thrown somewhere different, and the same period and the same country hold them all together. In Sergei Solovyov’s hundred and thirty minute Russian film the lead is played by the director’s son Dmitri Solovyov, who also shares the writing credit. Valentin Gaft, Sergey Garmash and Boris Grebenshchikov appear as well, and the film was made at the Trite studio.
