One Mile Above

Shuhao is twenty four, a Taiwanese man just out of university. His older brother Shuwei, whom he has looked up to since childhood, dies on a bicycle ride to Lhasa. Shuhao decides to finish the journey his brother left unfinished. His inexperience nearly takes him over a cliff on a dark night. He survives an attack by a pack of dogs and then comes down with food poisoning. In the end he reaches Lhasa and sees the Potala Palace. The film folds grief and travel into each other. Where a road taken alone brings a person is the real subject. Bryan Chang and Li Xiaochuan appear in Jiayi Du’s ninety minute Chinese film, completed in 2011.
