What One Sings, the Other Doesn't Is About
Pomme is young and from the city; Suzanne is a few years older, from the country, with two children and pregnant with a third. Pomme lends her the money for an abortion and that is how the friendship starts. Their paths separate, they keep in touch by postcard, and ten years later they meet again at a demonstration. Pomme has become a singer, Suzanne works at a family planning centre. Agnès Varda directed, and there are songs in it. When the story begins, abortion was illegal in France; it was legalised in 1975, and the film was made inside that change.
