What The Gleaners and I Is About

A documentary that starts from the tradition of gathering what is left in a field after harvest and goes looking for the people in France who now live by gathering from bins, markets and fields. Agnes Varda travels alone with a small digital camera and the constraint shapes the film: the conversations are relaxed, the cutting free, and when the camera runs by accident that footage stays in. She films her own ageing hands and puts gleaning and her own work in the same sentence.
