What Deliver Us from Evil Is About

Amy Berg’s documentary opens the file on Oliver O’Grady, a priest who sexually abused children in California over many years. The film sets two things side by side: the accounts of survivors and their families, and O’Grady’s own testimony to camera, delivered without any visible remorse. The subject is not really one man but the institution that knew and moved him from one parish to the next. Calm, methodical, and carrying its anger without raising its voice. Hard to watch, and necessary if you want to understand the institutional half.
