The documentary tells five crises that have fallen off the world’s agenda in five separate short films. Isabel Coixet filmed Chagas disease through a Bolivian woman working as a carer in Spain; Mariano Barroso took sleeping sickness in Central Africa, Fernando Leon de Aranoa the child soldiers of northern Uganda, Javier Corcuera the peasants displaced in Colombia, and Wim Wenders the testimony of women who suffered sexual violence in Congo. All five parts ask the same question: why does a given suffering never become news? What the directors share is a wish to put forward the words of the people living through it, without turning the suffering into a spectacle. Javier Bardem produced it, and the film was completed in 2007 with the support of Doctors Without Borders.
