What Only Fools Fall in Love Is About
Ford is rich and clever and utterly unbearable, hard with everyone and quick to look down on them. His heavily indebted brother Jack talks the street performer Dee into an arranged marriage so as to get at the family money, and then tries to kill Ford before the wedding. Ford survives, but the blow he takes in the fall damages his mind for good and from that day he lives like a child. Dee, who feels responsible, takes him in, and in time the two grow attached to each other; Jack, meanwhile, will not leave them alone. Johnnie To produced Vincent Kok’s hundred and two minute Hong Kong film; Lau Ching-Wan and Jacklyn Wu take the leads, and it was completed in 1995.
