What Oriana Is About
A young woman arrives at a hacienda in Venezuela and learns, piece by piece, about the life of Oriana, the reclusive aunt who left her the property. As the flashbacks go on, what is hidden under the silence of the house opens up, and the matter turns from an inheritance into an act of remembering. In her first film Fina Torres uses a tropical estate as the place where memory lives, and the narration works less like a mystery than like slow recollection. It won the Camera d’Or at Cannes and made Torres known internationally.
