R. Parthiban's 2019 Tamil film takes place in an interrogation room. A man held as a murder suspect recounts events to the police, and as he talks unexpected connections emerge. The formal claim is this: there is one performer on screen. The police, the witnesses and the other characters are represented by voice alone; Parthiban writes, directs and plays it by himself. That constraint becomes the narrative itself. The viewer learns the events only from the suspect's account and cannot measure its truth. The sound design carries the film, and the setting is almost entirely one room. Who it's for: those who like formal experiment and Tamil thrillers. Who it's not for: viewers expecting visual variety; you see one face for the length of the film.
