Kuttappayi is a small boy who has lost his parents, and he arrives in Kuttanad with his grandfather Valiyappachayi and their ducks. The village is beautiful, and he starts a new life among the postman with no letters, the dog with no name and Tinku, the rich boy. But the film ties that peace to something: it opens with the child writing a letter to his grandfather from a dark place, and everything else is remembered from there. Jayaraj adapted the film from Anton Chekhov’s 1886 story Vanka, which was itself about where poverty sends a child. Ashanth K. Shah plays the boy and Kumarakom Vasudevan the grandfather. It won the Crystal Bear for best film in the Generation Kplus section at the Berlin Film Festival and the top feature award at the twentieth International Film Festival of Kerala. The record dates it 2014 where sources say 2015.
