What Our Godfather Is About
Tommaso Buscetta was the first high-ranking figure in Cosa Nostra to break its code of silence. Arrested in Brazil and extradited to Italy, he began talking to the magistrate Giovanni Falcone in 1984, and what he said became the spine of the maxi trial held in Palermo across 1986 and 1987, which ended in hundreds of convictions. The price was brutal: eleven of his close relatives were killed, two of them his sons, and his family lived in the United States under witness protection and new names. Mark Franchetti and Andrew Meier build the film out of archive material and home movies, and they get that family on camera after more than thirty years of silence.
