Our Neighbor, Miss Yae

Keitaro is a law student and Yaeko a girl still at high school. The two families live side by side and the friendship between the young people slowly turns into something else. Then Yaeko’s elder sister Kyouko separates from her husband and comes back to the family house. Kyouko’s interest in Keitaro is plain, and Yaeko grows uneasy. The film gives this not as the tension of a love triangle but inside the daily flow of living next door. Talk at the doorstep, meals at the table and the coming and going between two houses are the real material of the account. Yumeko Aizome and Den Obinata appear in Yasujiro Shimazu’s seventy six minute Japanese film, completed in 1934.
