Our Own

1941. The front has moved east and the district is under occupation. Three soldiers who have got away from captivity are looking for somewhere to hide. One is a commissar, one an intelligence man, one a sniper. They reach the sniper's village, where his father offers to help them. But whose side the old man is on, and who he might give up, is never clear. Dmitry Meskhiev's Russian film builds the war not as a front line but as a village matter. The question of who counts as one of us is in the title, and the answer keeps shifting. The film took the grand prize at the Moscow Film Festival in 2004; Meskhiev was named best director and Bohdan Stupka best actor. Konstantin Khabensky is also in the cast.
