Paar

An election is held in a small village in northeastern India. A Dalit wins it. Violence breaks out in the village afterwards. There are deaths and the order collapses. An impoverished couple have to flee. Where they go is Calcutta. They hope to find work there. There is no work and they end up on the street. They sleep like that for days. In the end someone brings them an offer. They are to take a herd of pigs across the river. The current in the river is very strong. The wife, moreover, is pregnant. Knowing all that, the two of them accept. Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi appear in the hundred and forty one minute film, an Indian production Goutam Ghose finished in 1984.
