Pachuvum Athbhuthavilakkum

Prakashan is a man from Kerala who runs a small shop in Mumbai. The premises belong to his landlord and he has been paying rent for years. The landlord makes him an offer: if he takes his mother somewhere in Kerala and helps her settle a matter, he will get the deed to the shop. Prakashan agrees. He sets off with the old woman and the journey goes somewhere entirely unlike what he planned; what she is really looking for is not what he assumed. This is Akhil Sathyan's first film. The narrative uses the road-film structure and draws its humour from the mismatch between the two characters. But its real subject is the definition of success: what one works for and what is given up in return. Fahadh Faasil plays Prakashan and Viji Venkatesh plays the old woman. Venkatesh is not a professional actor; she is a health activist who works with cancer patients. Who it's for: Viewers who like Malayalam cinema, road films, and character-driven comedy. Who it's not for: The pace is slow and the narrative leans on emotional peaks in the final section. Some subplots are also unnecessary.
