Panchavadi Palam

The film is set inside a small village council. Dussassana Kurup heads the Iravathakuzhy panchayat. He is a politician sunk to the neck in corruption. A perfectly sound bridge already stands in the village. Kurup wants a new bridge carrying his own name. That means pulling down the sound one. He talks the other politicians round to it. A site farther away is chosen for the new bridge. A road will have to be built too, and there is money in that. The officials and contractors who arrive bring their own arrangements. Thundering speeches are made to win the public over. The bridge is finally put up. It collapses at the opening ceremony. The screenplay comes from a story by Veloor Krishnankutty. The cartoonist Yesudasan wrote the dialogue. Gopi and Nedumudi Venu appear in the one hundred forty minute film, an Indian production K. G. George finished in 1984.
