Panga

Jaya was once captain of India's national kabaddi team. Then she married, had a child and left the sport; now she works as a clerk at a railway station. One day her seven-year-old son finds out about his mother's old matches and wants her to go back. Her husband thinks the same. At thirty-two, Jaya starts again. Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's film uses the pattern of a sports picture, but a different question sits at its centre: whether it is normal for a woman to need her family's permission for something she wants herself. Kangana Ranaut plays Jaya, with Richa Chadha and Neena Gupta also in the cast. The telling shows the husband as supportive and does not present that as an exception.
