What Paskal Is About
In January 2011 Somali pirates hijacked the Malaysian tanker MV Bunga Laurel in the Indian Ocean; PASKAL, the special forces of the Royal Malaysian Navy, stormed the ship, rescued the crew and took the pirates prisoner. The film covers that operation and the training that led up to it, with the officer commanding the unit at its centre. It is one of Malaysia's large budget productions about its own armed forces, so the point of view is official and the heroic register runs high; it should not be watched as a neutral documentary.
