What Patagonia Is About
The film tells two journeys running in parallel. A young couple from Wales travel to Patagonia to see Y Wladfa, the Welsh settlement founded in Argentina, and the matter between them grows along the way. At the same time an elderly Argentine woman sets out in the opposite direction, towards Wales, to see the land her family came from. One is looking for her past and the other for her future, and the account moves between them; one travels south to north through a Welsh spring, the other east to west through an Argentine autumn. Marc Evans’s hundred and nineteen minute Welsh Argentine co-production was shot in Welsh, Spanish and English. Matthew Rhys and Nia Roberts appear, and it is also the first film of the singer Duffy. It was shown in Seattle on 10 June 2010.
