Peacetime

On 18 April 1945 in Rio de Janeiro, as the war ends, Brazil enters a brief period of democratic rule. Clausewitz, a Polish actor coming off the ship, is looking for a new life as someone who fled the Nazi regime. Segismundo, who receives him at the immigration office, is an official who tortured prisoners under the previous government and is now charged with keeping Nazis out of the country; he suspects the man. The two strike a bargain: the Pole must make the official cry with what he lived through in the war, or he will not be let in. Tony Ramos and Dan Stulbach appear in the eighty minute Brazilian film adapted from a stage play; Daniel Filho’s production was completed in 2009.
