Pedro, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea

Pedro was the first emperor of Brazil. The film follows his voyage back to Europe. The voyage takes place on an English ship. The ship is the Warspite. The days at sea are long. Pedro looks back over his life. The first thing he remembers is his childhood. He had arrived from Portugal with his family in 1808. The years that followed were spent in Brazil. Throne, politics and family were tangled together. In 1831 he left the country in the middle of the night. The film moves between those two ends. What it puts forward is the personal side. Facing his own fears is at the centre of it. Cauã Reymond and Victoria Guerra appear in the ninety six minute film, a Brazilian and Portuguese production Laís Bodanzky finished in 2022.
