What Petal Dance Is About

Jinko and Motoko learn that Miki, a friend from their university years, tried to take her own life and survived. Neither of them has seen her in six years, and they set off north by car to visit her, taking along Haraki, whom Jinko happens to meet. The drive turns into an accounting of their own losses and of the guilt of not having been there when it mattered. Hiroshi Ishikawa released the film on 20 April 2013, with Aoi Miyazaki, Shioli Kutsuna, Sakura Ando and Kazue Fukiishi, a score by Yoko Kanno and cinematography by Yoichi Nagano. It says very little out loud and leaves most of what it means to the landscape.
