Picture a Scientist

The documentary takes up the gender gap in science. Women make up less than a quarter of the people working in science and engineering in the United States. For women of colour the share is lower still. The film follows researchers trying to change that picture. They are writing a new chapter for women in science. They are making long-standing discrimination visible. Their aim is to open science up to everyone. The work tells their stories in their own words. Sexual harassment is inside the account. So is what happened to them during field work. Nancy Hopkins and Jane Willenbring are among those who speak. Raychelle Burks and Kathryn Clancy are in the film too, which Ian Cheney and Sharon Shattuck made in 2020 and which runs ninety four minutes.
