What Piggy Is About
A horror film set in a Spanish town. Sara is an overweight teenager. She is humiliated constantly in the town; at school, in the street and in her family's butcher shop. One afternoon she goes to the pool when nobody is there, and three girls hold her under and take her clothes. Walking home half-naked and barefoot, she is passed by a van. The three girls are in the back, tied up and calling for help. The driver looks at Sara and does nothing. Sara does nothing either. The whole matter is that silence: she does not say what she saw, and whether the reason is fear, revenge, or being noticed by someone for the first time, the film leaves open. It was expanded from Carlota Pereda's short of 2018; the short won a Goya and Laura Galán played the same part in it. Galán won Best New Actress at the Goya Awards for this film. It screened at the Sundance film festival in 2022. A strong example for anyone who likes horror joined to social criticism. Before you watch, know this: the film shows bullying and violence directly and means to be uncomfortable.
