Pink Moon

Jan is seventy-four and in good health, and he tells his children that he considers his life complete and intends to end it by his next birthday. His son accepts the announcement quietly; his daughter Iris fights it the whole way. Floor van der Meulen’s first feature refuses to turn this into an argument film. What it is really about is a daughter realising she has run out of time to get to know her father. The choice, which is legal in the Netherlands, is neither blessed nor condemned here; the camera stays with the people left standing around the decision. The film played more than eighty-five festivals and took a special jury mention at Tribeca.
