Pity

There is a lawyer. He has no name in the film, he is just the lawyer. His wife is in a coma, and in the course of it he discovers that being unhappy suits him. People pity him, treat him gently, leave cake at his door, and he gets used to the attention. Then his wife starts to recover, his claim on that pity disappears, and he becomes willing to do whatever it takes to get it back. Babis Makridis's film belongs to the strange wave of Greek cinema: flat performances, cold framing, a register in which the funny and the appalling are indistinguishable. Efthymis Filippou worked on the screenplay.
