Placido Rizzotto

The film is set in Sicily. As a child Placido Rizzotto sees his father arrested. The man goes to prison for a crime he did not commit. The event leaves its mark on the boy. Years later the war comes. Placido fights as a soldier to begin with. Then he joins the partisans against fascism. When the war ends he returns to his village. He finds that the order there has changed. The Mafia has taken hold of local politics. It takes what it wants from the people. Placido decides to stand against it. He leads the founding of a trade union. He tries to organise the villagers for common work. The fields seized by the Mafia are at the heart of the matter. Marcello Mazzarella and Vincenzo Albanese appear in the one hundred ten minute film, an Italian production Pasquale Scimeca finished in 2000.
