What Poppitz Is About

Gerry Schartl sells cars and takes himself for the best in the business. He goes off with his family to an all-inclusive holiday resort; his life is in order, or at least it looks that way. As the holiday goes on, it becomes clear how thin a shell that order is. Small mishaps pile up and Gerry starts to come apart. Harald Sicheritz's Austrian comedy puts Roland Düringer at its centre. The humour is entirely local, built on the self-satisfaction of the Austrian middle class, resort etiquette and the behaviour of tourists. The telling does not make the character likeable, but it is not cruel to him either. Marie Bäumer is also in the cast. The tone is light and the ending more bitter than expected.
