Pranaya Vilasam

Nikhil Muraly's 2023 Malayalam film begins with something coming to light about a woman's youth. When an old relationship becomes known her family is shaken and her children begin arguing over it among themselves. The film sets several love stories side by side. People of different generations contend with similar decisions at the same time; the narrative does not judge the past and applies the same measure to the present relationships. Arjun Ashokan and Mamitha Baiju are in the cast. The tone is light and the humour everyday; small-town life is shown in detail. The narrative produces no large conflict and the close is measured. Who it's for: those who like warm Malayalam romantic comedy. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a dense narrative; the film runs several lines in a light register.
