Project Grizzly

The documentary follows the project to which the Canadian Troy Hurtubise gave his life. As a young man he met a grizzly bear and survived, and from that day he set his mind on studying the animal close up. For this he builds himself a suit of armour by hand at home, improves it after every trial, and to test it tries everything imaginable, from having himself hit by a truck to being rolled down a slope. Then he goes up into the Rockies to look. Peter Lynch’s seventy two minute Canadian documentary shows the comic side of the project without ever belittling the man; his seriousness and the absurdity are able to stand at the same time. It was completed in 1997, and the broadcaster Peter Gzowski appears in the film alongside Hurtubise.
