Proof

Martin, blind from birth, takes photographs and hides them from everyone; the only use he has for them is to have someone describe what they show. He believes his mother lied to him and wants proof that the world he was told about is true. When he becomes friends with Andy, a dishwasher, he gives him the describing. At the same time Celia, his housekeeper, has spent years trying to bind him to her. In her first film Jocelyn Moorhouse treats trust as the subject and vindicates nobody. Hugo Weaving plays Martin and Russell Crowe plays Andy, one of Crowe's early parts. It played at Cannes and swept the awards in Australia. Who it is for: viewers who like Australian independent cinema and drama built on triangles. Who it is not for: anyone looking for sympathetic characters.
