What Puthiya Niyamam Is About
Louis Pothen is a divorce lawyer who appears on television debates and writes film criticism as well. His wife Vasuki Iyer is a kathakali artist, and they live with their school age daughter in a city apartment. The film keeps back for a while how Vasuki went from being lively to being withdrawn, and then says it: she was raped. What follows is the question of what to do where the law does not work, and the answer the film gives is openly outside the courts. A. K. Sajan wrote and directed it, with Nayanthara and Mammootty in the leads. It is clear about what it is arguing, and can be watched without having to agree with it.
