What Pygmalion Is About
The linguist Henry Higgins bets that in six months he can pass a Cockney flower girl off as a princess in any drawing room in London. Eliza Doolittle moves into his house and the lessons begin: vowels, walking, cutlery. As the wager goes on, the person actually changing is not the girl but the man treating her as an experiment. Bernard Shaw worked on the screenplay of his own play and won an Oscar for it. Note for anyone who knows My Fair Lady: this is the source, and it ends elsewhere.
