Set in Almaty at the start of the nineties, the film follows Sayan, a promising young boxer who joins a local gang in order to fight his way to a better life. The higher he climbs in the underworld the more he learns what it costs and that some choices cannot be undone. The account is told in the first person; ambition, loyalty and the reckoning that always comes are parts of the same story. The lawlessness of the years after the Soviet Union broke up is not the background of the film but its direct subject. Sayat Isembayev appears in Akan Satayev’s eighty minute Kazakh film, completed in 2007.
