The film sets out from the life of Rich Mullins, a musician who, after winning fame and money in Christian music, walked away from it to live on a Navajo reservation. It relates that he grew up on a farm in Indiana beside a distant father and wrestled all his life with the insecurity left from his childhood. The portrait the film draws is of a man who stood inside the church and objected to it, and who did not hide his own weaknesses. These are the film’s telling, not a verdict on the real person. The success in Nashville, the collapse in Wichita and the quiet that followed are given in turn. Michael Koch plays the lead in David Leo’s hundred and thirty seven minute American film, completed in 2014.
