Rahasya

Manish Gupta's 2015 Indian film begins with the only child of a doctor couple murdered in her own bed. Suspicion falls first on the father; the officer who takes over the investigation, Sunil Paraskar, realises that everyone in the house is hiding something. The film was inspired by a real murder case that resonated widely in India, and that resemblance caused argument while proceedings were ongoing. The story's strength is building its solution on evidence rather than surprise: every clue has been shown, and the viewer can reach the answer. Kay Kay Menon's officer is restrained. Its limit is that standing so close to a real case is ethically questionable. Who it's for: viewers who like Indian detective films and classic murder mystery construction. Who it's not for: anyone troubled by a film drawn from a real case, or avoiding violent and detailed depictions of murder.
